We all love our weekends. They’re a welcome break from a busy week, a safe haven away from the stress and bustle of life. Sometimes we can become so focused on just relaxing, that we don’t make the most of our time. We can settle into a weekend routine. Truth is, our brains need to be stimulated just as much during the weekend as during our work week. It can be confusing to know where to start. I mean, who likes the thought of adding more to their busy week? Maximizing your weekend doesn’t have to be stressful. Making the most of your time can actually be refreshing. Here are some ways to maximize your weekend time without making it feel like another work day.

Get Out Of The Box!

Try something new this weekend! There are a lot of different ways to incorporate variety into your life no matter what your budget might be. When we stay with a routine, it’s beneficial in the fact that it gives us security, but weekends are a time to break that regular routine and spice it up a little bit. Act like a tourist in your hometown and scout out new restaurants, entertainment, and recreation. Go see a movie that you normally wouldn’t. If you have a significant other, go on a date that you have never been on before! Getting out of the box will educate you in ways that you never realized. You’ll feel as if you have been on vacation without spending half the cost. Trying something new will make you feel as if you have done a lot with your weekend, even if you only did one new thing.

Get Smart!

Choose to stimulate your mind this weekend. Go to your local library and choose a book on an interesting topic. Go attend a lecture. Watch a documentary or attend a cooking class. Don’t let your learning stop just because it is the weekend! Chances are you have a wealth of information at your fingertips if you only look. Many towns and cities have a variety of activities for their citizens such as museums, libraries, college classes, etc. If you don’t have anything like this nearby, utilize your internet resources and learn something new! The world is full of new information just begging to be learned. Make yourself a constant student of the universe and try to learn as much as you can, wherever you go.

Get In Touch With Nature

Embracing nature on our weekends can help us relax even more than being a homebody can! Sunshine is proven to reduce depression and increase productivity. So get outside, take a walk and see some beautiful things! You don’t have to travel far to find a beautiful place to explore. Chances are, you have one close to your own backyard! Just viewing nature can give you an opportunity for peace. If you can’t go outside, sit at your window or watch a nature documentary on television. You can also put on a recording of peaceful nature sounds.

Be A Kid Again

Take a chance and be immature for a weekend! Do those “kiddy” activities that used to bring you so much joy. Whether you were a video gamer, an explorer, an artist, or a chef, revisiting old hobbies can ignite creativity in you like nothing else. Being a grown up is hard work and sometimes it takes acting like a kid again to fully refresh us. Some great examples of relaxing “kid” activity would be things like coloring, painting, sculpting with clay, skipping rocks, and watching an old movie. Another option would be to spend some quality time with a younger friend or relative. Seeing things from a kid’s point of view is refreshing!

Get Fit!

Get some exercise into your weekend to not only cleanse your body, but your soul. Exercising can relieve stress, increase blood flow, release happy endorphins, and help you to lose weight overall. Make fitness fun during the weekend with activities like rock climbing, jogging, bike riding, and yoga. Bring a friend along to make it a social event! Most communities have fitness classes that you can participate in on the weekends. If you don’t have any classes nearby, utilize your internet to find new ways to work out!

Pamper Yourself!

Renew yourself with a little pampering. Get a massage, manicure, pedicure or facial. Treat yourself to your favorite book or chocolate. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to pamper yourself. You can do many of the things that I mentioned yourself in the privacy of your own home. Doing little things for yourself during the weekend will make weekends seem special instead of mundane. Taking time for yourself is vital to your self-care and will help you maximize your down time! Pampering yourself can also be in the form of doing something that you enjoy instead of doing what others want all weekend. Whether you enjoy shopping, reading, cooking, or writing.. Just do it! Be a little selfish with your weekend and give yourself some quality time too!

It can be challenging to think of fitting more into our busy schedules, but taking advantage of the 60 hours that you have will make you a more fulfilled person overall. You’ll be able to conquer your work week instead of just suffering through it because you know the weekend will be something exciting. Take a chance and get the most out of your weekend by applying these tips!
