3 Often Overlooked Causes of Anxiety (and What to Do About Them)


I think everyone has had their share of anxiety attacks at one time or another. Most of the time we know the reason why we feel stressed out or worried. But there are also times that we encounter moments when we feel worried or scared for uncertain reasons. This is brought about by things that we tend to overlook. Most of the times we are unaware that these things cause our anxiety.

Here are some often overlooked causes of anxiety and what you can do about them.

1. People Problems

All through out our lives we meet a lot of people. There are some we get to like and some we would rather not be with at all. Through time we develop different relationships with different people. In the past we gain both friends and foes. Most of the time we part ways with those who hurt us or with those whom we have hurt in the past without a resolution.

We may not know it, but relationship issues get buried deep inside our subconscious. And when they are not resolved, they can cause anxiety when similar situations arise. The only way to overcome these issues is to go back and try to make peace with the person or more importantly, make peace with yourself about it. Learn to forgive those who hurt you and learn to forgive yourself for past mistakes.

2. Missing Your Call

I believe that we are all made for a certain purpose. Our unique talents and skills are meant for a specific task which is part of the grand design of life. Do you sometimes feel that you are meant to be elsewhere or feel as if you would rather be doing something else than what you are being asked to do? If this is the case, you may just be missing your calling.

If you are unhappy about your life, you may just be in the wrong place, with the wrong kind of people, doing the wrong kinds of things. Reflect on your life and ask yourself, what you see yourself doing in five to ten years in the future. If you were to do a job or be somewhere you want to grow old in, what or where would it be? We all have our certain calling in life. You just have to pause and reflect on your life to figure it out.

3. That Bad Feeling

Last, but not the least, we all have those skeletons in our closets. Somehow there is something in your life that you regret or feel guilty about. These are the moments that haunt us or make us feel bad whenever we see a situation just like what happened in the past. These are the shadows that follow us and make us fear or worry even if we no longer think about the event that made us that way.

To overcome these feelings of guilt, regret, remorse and anger, we should look back and try to see the good that has come out of that bad experience. We should learn to see the wisdom and the lessons we have learned so that we will not have to experience that bad episode in our lives ever again.
